This ongoing study group is for those with some experience in Zen practice who would like to deepen their understanding of Zen teachings and traditions. We generally choose a text to read together, taking as much time as we need to deeply understand it. We use writing as a way of reflecting and raising questions about what we are reading and its application to our Zen practice in daily life. It is not an academic or intellectual form of study, but a complement and enrichment for our practice of Zazen.
Anyone is welcome to join us. Please make an donation appropriate to your means.
We meet every Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 in the Appamada study. Please check the Appamada calendar if you are not sure about a particular date.
Appamada is not just the occasional mindful thought or attentive state of mind, it’s actually a commitment to being attentive. It’s more than just a meditative state of mind, it’s more than just being mindful. It has to do with that primary ethical or moral orientation we have in life, with which we bring into being whatever activity we’re engaged in. Whether in formal meditation, in our interactions with other people, in our social concerns, or in our political choices, it’s the energetic cherishing of what we regard as good.
