Today in the Sunday Program we read the Metta Sutta

Reflections on the Mountain Seat Ceremony at Houston Zen Center

Yesterday Flint and I attended the installation of an abbot, Gaelyn Godwin, at the Houston Zen Center. Many dignitaries were present, including Hoitsu Suzuki Roshi, the son of Shunryu Suzuki, five abbots and former abbots from the San Francisco Zen Center, Daigaku Rumme representing Soto Zen International, and many well-known teachers. I described the program in some detail in my Sunday dharma talk.

I just wrote to you and I think the message disappeared. Mainly I wanted to let you know I will send  a message to those who want to discuss Jay Earley's book and said we will meet the first time Thursday, January 26, upstairs at Central Market early evening - how early could you do it?  An hour and a half. I am letting people know you will meet with us the first few sessions until your school schedule gets heavy.

I am asking for input about the date and time and location also.  I did not know Lisa Kunzt had a serious injury and I am asking her if she has special needs like could she also meet at Central market or should we choose what works for her.

I don't want to send anything out till I hear back from you but I want to alert people to the fact that something will begin late January.

Blessings,

Joan

I just looked over the whole membership list to get acquainted with more names and faces and was very glad to see your smiling face on the last page.  My interviews with you give me new insights that open more in profound ways.  I will soon be 75 and I feel lucky to have rich new insights for the life ahead.

Appamada is not just the occasional mindful thought or attentive state of mind, it’s actually a commitment to being attentive. It’s more than just a meditative state of mind, it’s more than just being mindful. It has to do with that primary ethical or moral orientation we have in life, with which we bring into being whatever activity we’re engaged in. Whether in formal meditation, in our interactions with other people, in our social concerns, or in our political choices, it’s the energetic cherishing of what we regard as good.
