Peg's Sunday talk about the holidays

Hello, I have listened to Peg's talk again and forwarded it to two people.  I now have some grounding for myself as I make my way through this season with a wider vision.  The three breaths is really helpful.

I was having problems with my computer keyboard.  IT needed new batteries so I was not able to swiftly send out messages for a day.  I realized how quickly I always send out messages and that is one more time to breath three times and have an intention for each…

Jay Earley's book Self Therapy

During interview recently I asked Peg for a resource that would help me look at my thoughts and label them in a useful way.  She recommended this book which I have looked over.  I think it can be useful especially if it is studied and talked about with several members. Does anyone else want to know more and possibly share this in a small group?

You can look up the book on Amazon and read the author's comments and reviews by readers.

Hi, Joan.  I don't think you'd better count on me.  I haven't been making it to the morning sitting.  But you know you can send out an invite to the appamada list and I'm sure you'll get some folks.  Or you can just invite whoever shows up that morning.  Thanks for asking.  Lila

Hi, Joan.  Tomorrow works fine for me.  We can see if anyone who is at the sitting wants to come too.  If you don't come to sit then I'll meet you at Cherrywood a little after 7:30a.m.  See ya!  Oh!  I like your palm tree and look forward to hearing about it.  Lila

Sure!  Let me know which morning this week works for you and I'll arrange it with my work.  The dance group always tries to meet on the second Tuesday of the month so the next date is Feb. 14th.  Oh boy!  A Valentine's Day dance!  If the group wants to change the date I'll let you know.  Lila

Hi, Joan. I don't have your email address so will reply to you this way.  It would be great to have breakfast some morning after sitting.  I just need to let my supervisor know I'll be in late.

The circle dance group that I lead meets once a month on the evening of the second Tuesday.  So next week on Jan. 10th we'll be getting together.  We gather about 7pm and do very simple circle dances for about an hour.  Then we socialize for a bit, dance a couple more dances and end around 8:30pm.  It's a group of women most of whom are about my age.  Sometimes we have as many as 8-10 folks show up and other times there are only a few.  We dance at the clubhouse of the complex where I live.  If you're interested I'll give you directions.  If you want to ride with someone else I can see if someone lives near you.

So good to hear from you.  See you soon, I hope.  Lila

Hi Joan

Nice to hear from you.  This group has not been active but if you have some ideas I am sure the sangha members woould be interested.  I would love to find out more about your art.

Joan,

I'm interested.  I've just started driving again, but need someone on the other end to get my lightweight transport chair out of the car.  I have the book and enjoy small group study.  The main challenge for me is getting to Central Market, since I live in Cedar Park and traffic can be a challenge in the evening.  Email me at lisaannkuntz@yahoo.com for a faster exchange!

I haven't looked at the book yet because of family and holidays.

Hi Joan-

We don't post events that are not hosted by Appamada on the Community Events page (otherwise we would quickly be overwhelmed), but you can certainly send an email message to the group or send a message through the community site to members. You can include graphics or a flyer, for example, if you send an email message to appamada@googlegroups.com

Absolutely! I would love that. Anywhere you can add me as a friend.
Facebook if you also do that!

I've missed our book study the last couple of weeks due to my schedule.
Boy, can I tell a difference without that intellectual input each week.

Should be there Monday night. I'm at Mustang Island today down at
the Gulf Coast picking up my grandson for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Regards,

Marisue Mullins

Hi Joan,

I've been trying to figure out how to invite you to be my friend, but I haven't gotten it to work.  We may have to be secret friends!

Hi Joan-

We will begin the intensive at 7:00 PM on December 1. We will finish with a one day sitting that ends at 5:00 PM on December 4. In between we will have the typical integrated intensive schedule, meeting from 6:30-7:30 AM and then again from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM each day.

Peg

Appamada is not just the occasional mindful thought or attentive state of mind, it’s actually a commitment to being attentive. It’s more than just a meditative state of mind, it’s more than just being mindful. It has to do with that primary ethical or moral orientation we have in life, with which we bring into being whatever activity we’re engaged in. Whether in formal meditation, in our interactions with other people, in our social concerns, or in our political choices, it’s the energetic cherishing of what we regard as good.
